This is where vanilla comes from! Vanilla beans are not beans at all, but the seed pods of orchids. These specimens display bright white variegation on their leaves. Vanilla is a vine, so it is recommended to grow your orchids on a trellis, moss pole, or other support, though it can be grown as a trailing plant. Keep your orchid in an area where it will receive bright light and keep the substrate evenly moist. Do not allow your vanilla to dry completely or for the substrate to be waterlogged.
Vanilla is pet safe, so no worries here! They can also be included in tropical reptile enclosures, but make sure they have somewhere to climb!
