Butterworts (Pinguicula spp.) are carnivorous! They secrete a sticky mucilage from their leaves that traps small insects like fungus gnats and mosquitoes. This mucilage can give the leaves an oily appearance and feel, shedding some light on the genus name which translates to "little oily one." The flowers on Pinguicula spp. are orchid-like and can last for weeks! These plants are very easy to care for and are beginner friendly. For detailed care information, click here. A care sheet will also be sent with each purchase.

Pinguicula moctezumae may not look like other pings you are familiar with due to their long, narrow leaves. This species can only be found in a small sub-canyon of the Moctezuma river where it grows on damp limestone walls, where it was discovered in 1994. The flowers on this species have slightly ruffled petals and are a rich pink. Mature plants grow 3-4 inches in diameter.

Carnivorous plants are pet safe, so no worries here! These plants are much more dangerous to insects.

Plants will be shipped bare root and are suitable for a 2 to 3 inch pot. Photos are representative and some natural variation should be expected.
