Butterworts (Pinguicula spp.) are carnivorous! They secrete a sticky mucilage from their leaves that traps small insects like fungus gnats and mosquitoes. This mucilage can give the leaves an oily appearance and feel, shedding some light on the genus name which translates to "little oily one." The flowers on Pinguicula spp. are orchid-like and can last for weeks! These plants are very easy to care for and are beginner friendly. For detailed care information, click here. A care sheet will also be sent with each purchase.

Pinguicula gigantea alba x 'Huahuapan' has truly blended the best of both plants! The size of P. gigantea is absolutely demonstrated in this hybrid, which can easily reach 6 inches in diameter, sometimes getting up to 11 inches wide. Think of all the fungus gnats that can catch! The flower has the deep purpblish blue of P. 'Huahaupan' around the outside, with white from P. gigantea alba toward the center. Absolutely beautiful plant!

Plants will ship bare root and are suitable for a 2 to 4 inch pot. Typical potting soil that contains fertilizers are not suitable for carnivorous plants. Carnivorous plant soil can be found here
