This plant is carnivorous, meaning it eats meat! They attract insects which will then become trapped in their sticky "dew." While some may be intimidated by carnivorous plants, they're actually easy to care for. Also called the spoon-leaf sundew, Drosera spathulata is one of the easier carnivorous plants, making it an excellent plant for beginners! Native to southeast Asia and Australia, it is best to avoid temperatures lower than 45 degrees Fahrenheit. This species of sundew does not require dormancy.

Drosera spathulata and Drosera tokaiensis are often confused with one another. They do look incredibly similar and it makes sense- D. spathulata is one of the parent plants used to make the D. tokaiensis hybrid!

Care:

Carnivorous plants require rain or distilled water to survive. Tap water has too many minerals dissolved in the water and can possibly cause the roots to burn. Burned roots will lead to the plant struggling or plant death. This species of sundew is also a bog plant which means it likes to be wet at all times. Keeping a dish of carnivore safe water filled under the pot is the best way to accomplish this. These plants require full sun and thrive if grown outside where they can attract their own food.
