This is a variety of mammoth sunflower with famous white and grey striped seeds- hence its name. The flowers can grow up to a foot across on 6-12 foot tall stalks. The seeds have a high oil content, a thin shell, and a large edible center.

Sow seeds directly into the garden in late spring or early summer, but can also be started indoors 3-4 weeks before the last frost. Cover seeds with 1" of soil 6" apart. Thin seedlings to at least 12" apart. Germination in 8-10 days, blooms in 60-90 days after germination.
