It is clear where the blue oil fern gets its name! The fronds of this fern look like they are coated in a blue oily substance, but it isn't! The leaves developed the blue hue to help capture more sunlight in the shady, humid jungles in southeast Asia where they can be found in the wild. Keep your blue oil fern evenly moist and place in an area where it receives low to bright light. The brighter the light, the bluer the hue!
Ferns are pet safe, so no worries here! They would also make amazing additions to humid reptile enclosures, like those for frogs and some geckos.
