It looks like someone took a bingo blotter to these leaves! Begonia maculata var. wrightii has white spots covering the green leaves. On the back of the leaves hides a brilliant red! Typically, this begonia is grown for its foliage, though it does bear clusters of white flowers when mature. Begonia tolerate low light well, though do their best in bright indoor light. Water your polka dot begonia when it is about 50% dry.
Begonia are not pet safe, as they contain soluble calcium oxalates, though the most toxic portions are below the soil. For reptiles and amphibians, begonia make amazing additions to dart frog and other humid, wet enclosures. Be advised that polka dot begonias can grow to 2 feet tall, so they may be more fitting for arboreal habitats.
