Butterworts (Pinguicula spp.) are carnivorous! They secrete a sticky mucilage from their leaves that traps small insects like fungus gnats and mosquitoes. This mucilage can give the leaves an oily appearance and feel, shedding some light on the genus name which translates to "little oily one." The flowers on Pinguicula spp. are orchid-like and can last for weeks! These plants are very easy to care for and are beginner friendly. For detailed care information, click here. A care sheet will also be sent with each purchase.
Pinguicula 'Apasionada' is a cross between P. gigantea alba x moctezumae. The large, pink flowers are a nice compliment to upright to semi-upright narrow leaves. Mature plants will be between 3 and 4 inches in diameter, depending on care.
Carnivorous plants are pet safe, so no worries here! These plants are much more dangerous to insects.
Plants will be shipped bare root and are suitable for a 2 to 3 inch pot. Typical potting soil that contains fertilizers are not suitable for carnivorous plants. Carnivorous plant soil can be found here.
