Old Mexico cacti have been selectively bred for its virtually thornless pads. Typically, Opuntia gomei has impressive thorns that will keep even the most curious desert animals away. Virtually does not mean completely, and there are still some small glochids that can be stuck in your skin for days. When handling this cactus, be aware of the areolas, the small areas where thorns would typically emerge from.
Opuntia, like many cacti are pet safe. Because the thorns have been bred out of this variety, this makes them entirely safe for reptile enclosures. This also makes them ready-to-eat for veggie-loving animals like bearded dragons, uromastyx and even people!
Plants will be shipped bare root and are suitable for a 6 inch pot. Photos are representative and some natural variations should be expected.
