You may know this plant as the carrion flower, starfish cactus, or toad plant. This is a member of the dogbane family, Apocynaceae. It's native to the desert regions of northwest South Africa. When this plant blooms, the flower mimics that of rotting flesh in both smell and appearance, complete with hairs! The pollinators, flies and beetles, are tricked into thinking they will get a nice meal when visiting this flower. The stems are surprisingly soft!

Despite being a member of the dogbane family, the Stapelia genus is pet safe, so no worries here! They can be added to arid reptile enclosures, but are more often grown as houseplants.

Plants will be shipped bare root and are suitable for an 8 inch pot.
