Butterworts (Pinguicula spp.) are carnivorous! They secrete a sticky mucilage from their leaves that traps small insects like fungus gnats and mosquitoes. This mucilage can give the leaves an oily appearance and feel, shedding some light on the genus name which translates to "little oily one." The flowers on Pinguicula spp. are orchid-like and can last for weeks! These plants are very easy to care for and are beginner friendly. For detailed care information, click here. A care sheet will also be sent with each purchase.
Pinguicula 'Razzberry Blonde' is a cultivar with unknown origins, but appears to be (P. gigantea x P. emarginata) x P. agnata. The leaves range from green, to light pink, to deep mauve depending on lighting intensity. The brighter the light, the pinker the leaves! 'Razzberry Blonde' is well known for its beautiful flowers. The large petals are a creamy white with a raspberry colored center. Mature plants can reach 4 to 5 inches in diameter, depending on care.
Carnivorous plants are pet safe, so no worries here! These plants are much more dangerous to insects.
Plants will be shipped bare root and are suitable for a 2 to 3 inch pot. Typical potting soil that contains fertilizers will kill carnivorous plants. Carnivorous plant soil can be found here.
