Helianthus helianthoides goes by many names. False sunflower, oxeye sunflower, oxeye daisy, smooth oxeye, early sunflower, oxeye, and Heliopsis sunflower are all names for this amazingly prolific yellow, daisy-like flower. The flowers bloom from late spring until early fall, which attract bees and other pollinators. The seeds are browsed by songbirds and small mammals as they prepare for large migrations or a cold winter. False sunflowers earned the Keystone species distinction for being an integral part of 60+ butterfly/moth species as a host plant, and serving over 50 species of specialist bees pollen and nectar, in addition to other pollinators. The native range of this species takes up most of the eastern half of the USA west to New Mexico. It thrives in moderate to moist areas, often along wooded edges or along creek beds.

Heliopsis helianthoides is hardy in zones 3a-9b. Organic seeds are collected from a SW PA population. 200 seeds per packet.
