Monstera siltepecana is similar to a trailing philodendron where it can be grown trailing or on a pole for bigger and better leaves! Either way, with the right care, your monstera will thrive. Place your monstera where it will receive moderate to bright light and water when the soil is 50-75% dry. These plants can tolerate lower light levels, but if you notice the vines getting longer before putting on a new leaf, consider moving your plant to a brighter area. Monstera spp., like other plants in the Araceae family, contain insoluble calcium oxalates, which can cause oral and GI irritation, as well as other symptoms. Because of this, they are not considered pet safe when it comes to our furry friends. If you were thinking of including it in a tropical enclosure, don't let that stop you! Even if your reptile takes a chomp out of the vine, they have different tolerances than our furry friends. Treat this like a pothos, where it can be allowed to climb or trail within the enclosure.
