Butterworts (Pinguicula spp.) are carnivorous! They secrete a sticky mucilage from their leaves that traps small insects like fungus gnats and mosquitoes. This mucilage can give the leaves an oily appearance and feel, shedding some light on the genus name which translates to "little oily one." The flowers on Pinguicula spp. are orchid-like and can last for weeks! These plants are very easy to care for and are beginner friendly. For detailed care information, click here. A care sheet will also be sent with each purchase.

Pinguicula ehlersiae is a Mexican species originally collected from a location near Guadalcázar. The flowers are a lovely shade of pink to match the leaves, which grow to be a more intense shade in brighter light. This is a small species, maturing to 1.5-2 inches in diameter.

Carnivorous plants are pet safe, so no worries here! These plants are much more dangerous to insects.

Plants will be shipped bare root and are suitable for a 2 to 3 inch pot. Typical potting soil that contains fertilizers are not suitable for carnivorous plants. Carnivorous plant soil can be found here
