Ant plants are also called maze plants for the same reason. Inside their caudex, there is a maze of interconnected "rooms" that, in their natural environment, ants will use to colonize! The ants then bring food inside, and the decaying food combined with the ant waste helps to fertilize the plants. This is an epiphytic plant, meaning it grows on other plants, like air plants! Unlike air plants, keeping ant plants in pots is perfectly suitable. They can be found growing in tropical regions of southeast Asia into northern Australia, including Papua New Guinea, as the Latin name suggests. They mature slowly to 2 feet in height.

Ant plants are not pet safe, though if you have a tropical reptile or amphibian, they would make an amazing and unique addition to their enclosure! Their slow growth means they will not need trimmed often, and their dense foliage will act as a hide for your animals.

Plants will ship bare root and are suitable for a 4 inch pot.
