Alocasia scalprum is a mysterious plant! This species of Alocasia has dark, almost black leaves that are thick and leathery with a texture reminiscent of alligator skin. Their thick leaves make them more tolerant of underwatering than other species of Alocasia. Their leaves will curl backwards if there is a lack of water.
While members of the Alocasia genus, like other Aroids, have insoluble calcium oxalates, which make them unsafe for cats or dogs, as they cause mouth irritation and GI upset, they are a fantastic addition to tropical bioactive enclosures! Reptiles can tolerate these crystals and often will leave the plants alone. Their leaves are thick enough to hold mature geckos and most frogs. Their compact growth habit make them perfect for enclosures!
Plants will be shipped bare root and are suitable for a 4 inch pot. Photos are representative and some variation should be expected.
